Depending on your region and verification flow, you may be asked to complete one of the following methods:

Background email verification

In some cases, we can verify age through a secure background check connected to your email address.

Facial age estimation

You may be asked to complete a quick facial age estimation check using your device camera.

Government-issued ID verification

In regions with stricter legal requirements, you may need to upload a valid government-issued ID, such as:

  • passport;

  • driving licence;

  • national ID card.

Some flows may also require a selfie comparison to confirm identity ownership.

Does JOI store my ID documents?

No. JOI does not store copies of your identity documents.

Verification data is securely processed by VerifyMyAge in accordance with applicable privacy and data protection laws.

My verification failed - what should I do?

Common reasons verification may fail include:

  • blurry or incomplete photos;

  • expired ID documents;

  • lighting issues during facial verification;

  • unsupported document types;

  • camera permissions disabled on your device.

Please try again using:

  • a valid, non-expired document;

  • clear lighting;

  • a stable internet connection;

  • an unobstructed camera image.
